Nintendo continues to deliver new JRPG titles in 2020 to its expansive library, many of which are now available for players to demo. Demos can turn skeptics into fans, or at the very least give players insight into new releases without the commitment.

At the end of July, an article released in the news section of the Switch alerted players of the “try before you buy” demos just waiting for curious gamers to download. Currently, the Nintendo eShop boasts 382 titles to demo, 78 of which are role-playing titles available for purchase or ready to sample without concrete release dates.

Here are the latest JRPG free demo additions Switch owners can enjoy.

Cris Tales

Past, present, and future join together in Modus Games’ Cris Tales. Play as Crisbell, a time mage who recently discovers her unique abilities, and embark on a journey that promises gorgeous visuals and an enchanting storyline. This 2D adventure game uses a turn-based battle system that is reminiscent of classic JRPGs, such as Final Fantasy and Persona 5. Players are tasked with making tough calls with drastic consequences that rewrite the future of Crystallis. A release date has not yet been determined, but gamers can download the demo now to start their adventure.

Trials of Mana

From the developers who brought gamers a slew of widely popular games such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III, and the highly anticipated Balan Wonderworld for 2021, Square Enix is no stranger to JRPGs. The studio is responsible for revamping the 1995 classic Seiken Densetsu 3, otherwise known as Trials of Mana. Fans of the Mana series will be delighted by the game’s modernization with obvious graphic improvements, new character classes, a remastered soundtrack, DLC content, and a new episode only available after the ending. Trials of Mana was released on Switch, Playstation 4, and Steam on April 24th and can be downloaded to demo for free.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

Fight as Class VII in the third installation of the Trails of Cold Steel series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III. Fans of the JRPG series patiently waited to get their hands on this game. NIS America released the game on June 30th, two years after the Japanese release, likely due to the massive amount of localization required for the script which totaled around 1.1 million words. Immerse yourself in the world of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and become the next league of heroes.

BRIGANDINE: The Legend of Runersia

Those interested to demo this game will be able to play up to 10 seasons or until you control up to seven bases.
