Atari Hotels announced today in a press release their partnership with world-renowned design firm, Gensler, releasing new renderings of the anticipated United States locations. The first two locations that are anticipated to open in 2022 are Las Vegas, Nevada and Phoenix, Arizona.

Earlier this year, Atari, the iconic game system known for games such as Pong, Asteroids, Centipede, and more, signed a licensing agreement with True North Studio and GSD Group to open retro-themed hotels in eight cities. Blending contemporary accommodations with video games and pop culture, Atari Hotels will bring a unique experience to the masses. Atari Hotels is expected to open locations in Las Vegas, Nevada,  Phoenix, Arizona; Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; San Francisco, California; San Jose, California; and Seattle, Washington.

The newly announced Las Vegas location brings a new meaning to gaming to the city that never sleeps, an “experience that has never existed in a market primed for evolution.” Hotel guests will be able to fully immerse themselves in the world of video games upon arrival. The hotel is expected to include state-of-the-art amenities such as, a multi-use immersive gaming arena, retro arcade games (likely those from Atari’s golden years), themed bars and restaurants, a speakeasy with a nightclub for adult patrons, a ‘esports multiplex’, and of course exclusive Atari Hotel merchandise. There are sure to be plenty of selfie opportunities and updated Las Vegas skyline photos that show-off the famous red Atari logo.

Blurring the lines between nostalgia and the digital world, the hotels will offer gamers a real-life escape. Shelly Murphy, Managing Partner of the GSD Group says ,“like Atari’s legacy in innovation, Atari Hotels is infusing synthetic reality into every aspect of the hotel, creating an immersive hospitality and gaming experience for our guests.” Atari Hotels has something for the whole family, but the hotel markets to an audience of retro-game lovers, esport professionals, content creators, and video game enthusiasts.

While the future of traveling due to the current COVID-19 pandemic is still uncertain, the future does look a little brighter. If the hotels attract enough attention and bookings, this may just be the comeback that Atari has been after for decades.
